A footballer has alleged his girlfriend was abused by Benjamin Mendy, a court heard.

A woman known as Woman 10, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has accused Manchester City defender Mendy, 28, of orally and vaginally raping her at his home in August 2021.

Mendy, 28, is standing trial after being accused of eight counts of rape, one of attempted rape, and one of sexual assault.

In September, he was found not guilty on one count of rape against Woman Seven. Mr Mendy denies all the other charges.

In a police statement from August 2021 which was read out in court, the footballer said he had been in a relationship with Woman 10 for two-and-a-half years.

“She (Woman 10) sent me a text,” he said, “which said ‘I have to tell you something, please don’t be mad, it’s serious.’ I answered the phone and I could tell she was distressed.

“She kept apologising and I asked why she was sorry. She was so distressed I told her to calm down.

“She went to Chinawhite (a nightclub in Manchester) and was in the VIP area with Jack Grealish, Benjamin Mendy and Riyad Mahrez.

“While at the house, she told me she was kissing Grealish.

“She told me she was taken into a room with Mendy. She said the doors were locked and could not be opened from the outside. She said ‘he just stuck it inside me’. She said she didn’t say anything or tell him to stop.

“I didn’t ask questions as I didn’t want her to get more upset.”

Woman 10, her boyfriend says, told him she was “scared to speak up” about her allegation because they were “really important people” and she “could lose her job”.

The trial continues.
