Prasidh Krishna Facts
He used to play both volleyball and cricket during his school days. However, his parents had urged him to choose one of those when he had turned 14 so that he could focus completely on one discipline.
5 years later, he had made his first-class debut for Karnataka in one of the 3 first-class matches played during the representative team Bangladesh A‘s 2015 tour of India. He had received the opportunity a little earlier than expected as most of Karnataka’s frontline bowlers were unavailable for the match. He impressed immediately by picking up 5 wickets for 49 runs including a wicket off his very first delivery, as Karnataka won the match by 4 wickets. Among his victims were Rony Talukdar, Anamul Haque, Soumya Sarkar, and Nasir Hossain, all of whom had already represented Bangladesh’s senior national team.
In the 2016-17 season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy (India’s premier domestic one-day cricket competition), he had topped the wicket-taking charts for Karnataka with 13 wickets at an impressive average of 16.61 and an even more impressive economy rate of 3.82. The following season, he was the tournament’s 2nd-highest wicket-taker with 17 scalps at a brilliant average of 16.52. He had also recorded a match-winning spell of 3/37 in the final, helping Karnataka win their 3rd title.
Continuing his love affair with the tournament, he was again the leading wicket-taker for Karnataka in the 2018–19 season, with 13 dismissals in just 7 matches. He had repeated the feat in the 2020-21 season with 14 wickets in 7 games, a performance that eventually led the national selectors to include him in an Indian senior squad for the first time.
On his international debut in March 2021, in an ODI match against England, he became the first Indian bowler to record a 4 wicket-haul on ODI debut. His spell of 4 wickets for 54 runs was instrumental in India scripting a remarkable come-from-behind victory. England had raced to a score of 135 runs in just 14.2 overs in their attempt to hunt down India’s score of 317. This was when Prasidh picked up 2 wickets in a space of just 3 runs that punctured England’s momentum as India eventually overpowered England to steal a win from the jaws of defeat.
Prasidh Krishna was sold for INR 10 crore to Rajasthan Royals during the IPL 2022 mega auction in February 2022.
He was included in the ODI World Cup 2023 squad after Hardik Pandya was ruled out of the World Cup due to an ankle injury.
